The Jardin des Cordeliers: A Voyage of Discovery

Nestled in the heart of the town of Digne-les-Bains in the Alps of Haute-Provence, the Cordeliers botanical garden makes for an exotic change of scenery and is a true piece of paradise to visit alone, with friends or family.
By Justine Fiordelli

Founded in 1986, the Cordeliers botanical garden, named in reference to the place where it is located, is now home to over 350 species of plants of regional heritage. Unusual and a pleasure to contemplate, they are divided into four separate plots, each with a specific theme.

The medicinal plant garden is organized according to the different biotopes. Next to that, the aromatic plant garden presents various species of plants from around the world, such as African pelargoniums, lavender, sage, or botanical roses. The tour then continues through the vegetable garden with its array of vegetables and by the sensory garden designed around plants that can be touched and heard. Open since spring 2005, it’s a unique place, when sensory pleasure is at its zenith, thanks to a playful circuit that should not be missed.
