A Wander Through the Markets of Provence

A genuine invitation to explore the gastronomy of Provence, Provencal markets have spanned the centuries and today remain as timeless as ever. Traditional and ancestral, they are a real place of exchange and generosity where tourists and locals alike enjoy coming to discover the abundant local produce.

Much loved, the markets of Provence are an inevitable stop for both locals and tourists passing through. In the market alleys, the atmosphere is friendly between customers and producers and the mixture of colors, flavors and scents immediately makes your mouth water. Olives of all kinds, fresh and seasonal fruit and vegetables, local specialties, meats, and cheese... The stands are all so appetizing, with an abundance of choice!

Among the most popular, don’t miss the Arles market, in the Bouches-du-Rhône region, which is held twice a week. Set up on Wednesday mornings on the Boulevard Émile Combes and on Saturday mornings on the famous Boulevard des Lices, it offers more than 2.5 km of market stalls overloaded with a wide range of local produce. Fruit and vegetables, cheeses, flowers and spices, meat and fish, honey, olive oil, Arles salami or Camargue rice, but also clothing and footwear, textiles and crafts. Just as abundant and well known, the market in Biot, a small village near Nice, is also one of the most beautiful markets of Provence, without forgetting those of Avignon and Uzes, whose reputation is second to none.
